Nairobi National Park and a Hoedown

Before i start i just have to say we no longer have internet in our house =( Something about they moved the satalite and we are no longer in view of it, so anyway, basically i won't be writing so often now which is a shame! But i shall do a bit of a catch up now!

So on friday Phil was taking his guides he is training to Nairobi National Park and so me and Moon were taken along! It was pretty cool saw loads of things, white and black rhino, a 2 hour old baby impala (or gazelle one of the two) Lots of warthogs running about, they make me laugh! Buffalo, which are abosolutly massive! Zebra, some really cool birds... At one place we stopped and me and Moon found a something in a tree, a small cute fluffy not scared something eating leaves! Turned out it was a hyrax which is, believe it or not, the closest relative to an elaphant! Something to do with the structure of their feet and where certain glands are i think! And then some baboons came up, they are hilarious though everyone else hates them because they are very clever and always steal stuff, they manage to steal a water bottle from our van because we left one window a tiny bit open!
And then, probably the highlight for me, right near the end we saw giraffe right up close. They are such beautiful creatures, when they run it looks like they're in slow motion!
On the way home Moon and I went to the shopping mall place and i did some bargaining at the market, it was pretty fun actually, i knew i'd either love it or hate it but it was surprisingly enjoyable arguing with a random guy about the price of his necklace!

On saturday night Nick organised a hoedown. I didn't know what this was either, turns out its a line dancing country-like party they have in the deep south of the USA (where Nick is from). It was actually really fun. Nick cooked mashed potato (southern style - lots of cream cheese and sour cream in it!) sweetcorn (southern style) burgers... which were just burgers.. and peach cobler (peaches peeled and cut up courtesy of me =P) which was yum! We hardly have sweet stuff here...
And then he taught us some line dances and then taught some of us to swing dance, in which being a girl you don't really do much but somehow find your self spinning around as if you can actually dance (unless you're with someone who doesn't know what he's doing i guess). We even did throwing us in the air!! Which was so much fun though my ribs hurt on sunday! I was glad i was dancing with Nick actually.. Joe and Megan ended up lying on the floor quite a few times!

One last story about our gentle sunday afternoon strole....
So Debora Phil and i thought yeah lets go for an amble through the tea field down the road. Before too long we came to some guys house and ended up walking through the middle of his huts closely watched but him and his cow, after also walking pretty much through what must have been his toilet we decided we had to go back a different way whatever it took. It took a lot of scrambling through bushes, jumping over ditches, going up very steep paths, through more bushes, through someone elses land, over 2 barbed wire fences.... Eventually we popped out of a hedge by the main road to the astonishment of a couple of kenyans who happened to be standing there. Was absolutly hilarious though!
