Day 3!

So hey! Sorry the last one was a bit of a whirlwind! I was trying to be super quick because i felt a little awkward using someones laptop but no one is around now so i will slow down a bit!
So what can i say! All is well!
Let me tell you about the people i'm living with; so there is Deborah, she's german but has lived most her life in Kenya and a bit in South Africa so has an interesting english accent! She's like my coordinater person. Phil, he has the most amazing accent ever! Sounds south African but lives in Zimbabwe so im not sure... But he says 'aye' just like peter does when he's doing is SA impression! Carmen is also from South Africa and she's very lovely. Joe is very american and never stops talking! There is also this guy called Will around who i cant work out the connection, i dont think he lives here! And someone called Adrian coming back next week. But yeah they're all here like permintatly except phil i think. But they're all very nice and its pretty good fun. Oh and Doris! She is amazing! Kenyan lady that comes and cleans and washes and cooks us dinner =)
And what have i been up to? Well i visited all the different projects they're involved in. Its pretty good they are all things run by the local people that ACTS just help out a bit. Yesterday morning me and Deborah did some painting a 'Twinkle Twinkle' which is a pre-school. Primary school is free bu tthey have to pass and exam to get in, so they have to go to pre-school but they have to pay to go to pre-school, so Twinkle Twinkle and LCC-K another pre-school are either free or very cheap. The kids are so cute. They were watching me out of the window and started shouting 'how are you how are you' over and over, i dont think they understood it though! Just knew it was english!
Yesterday and today i've speant the afternoon at 'In His Image' which is a babies home. They have 10 babies proper, the youngest is 2 months (i fed her today she is tiny!) and 3 boys 15, 18 and 24 months and Becky who is 3 and adorable. She speaks english with an afircany accent. We were blowing bubbles yesterday and she got them everywhere and kept trying to eat the mixture. Oh and i found the source of the old lady with white hair, she is the american that set up the home. The kids get adopted by american or european parents from there when they are around 2 or 3. But yeah its good! Bit crazy with so many and only 2 or 3 ladies! I arrived yesterday and was given a baby and a bottle an that was it! So i fed burped and rocked it to sleep, even elizabeth might have been proud of me! About three of them were sick on me today but hey! I have to get used to gross stuff for physio anyway!
And this morning i was at Chesire Home, a home for disabled girls between about 13 and 22ish. There is an english lady there called Andre who is also lovely! The girls are all smiley and lovely too. All the kneyans are, they all say welcome everywhere you go.
Anyway, gunna have dinner now. Thank you for all the comments, Hannah chill i'll try skype you later today! Its good to hear from you all though... =)

  5. Hello Bethany

It's your aged uncleDavid here. I'm not used to these modern blog type things so don't know if you'll get this. Anyway I've read your comments so far and it all sounds very exciting so hope all will be well for your sojourn there. I wonder if you know that your Great Uncle Bryan was a vet in Uganda for many years. What is the native tongue, is it Swahili or some tribal language? Hope you continue to have fun!!

  6. Hi yep i can read all these comments. The national language is swahili but there are various tribal languages too. But mostly if people can speak swahili they can also speak english it seems...

  7. My lecturer on African Languages wouldn't like hearing you talking about 'tribes' He seemed to think it was a bad term for some reason. Has everyone you've met been able to speak English? Can you understand them when they do?
